Something Thai

Last week I went to the fabric market and found so many beautiful hand embroidered pieces for Thai traditional dance costumes. The fabrics were woven in decorative Thai patterns. The artisans then hand embroidered the gold beads onto the patterns which add more volume, texture and glamour to those pieces. The photos below show textile of the sarong part of the costumes.

Although these pieces are rather for commercial use and they are not the highest of quality in terms of handicraft, but it is just beautiful to see, touch and appreciate the uniqueness of Thai craft :)

grid, square, stitches

I was quite obsessed with cross stitching when I was about 8 or 9. My mom would buy me those kits that come with patterns and I remember spending my school holidays just stitching away.

It wasn't until two years ago when I started to miss it again. I started to draw my own patterns and just stitched this and that in my free time. It is quite similar to drawing weaving drafts (except I get to use more colours!) and it reminds me of all things pixelated and 8-bit (which I'm also obsessed about). Seeing how a small number of stitches can create an image is pretty fun. Here's a little piece I made a while ago...just thought cross stitch version of toy cameras would look pretty cute :)

A little spare time fun

I've been making a few textile jewelry for myself just for fun in my spare time. It actually started off as one of the little projects we had at the office last year. I spent almost a week just playing around with trimmings, ribbons and yarns and made necklaces, bracelets and headbands out of them. It was fun. Doing these little crafty things does take my mind out of the normal office realm. I do miss weaving a lot. I don't have a loom of my own so doing this just a good way of fulfilling my desire to craft. It's always fun and satisfying to just create things with my own hands. Time does fly when I do this :)

I'm also selling stuff I made on etsy. I'm still a newbie and there's so much to learn and improve. If you are interested, please visit my shop here
